Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure plans to close a five-way intersection in the Friendship neighborhood this weekend for a street art mural project.

Here are the three roads that will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday:

Roup Avenue from Friendship Avenue to Baum Boulevard, South Fairmount Street from Friendship Avenue to Baum Boulevard, Harriet Street from Graham Street to S. Fairmount Street and Roup.

Detours will be posted.

There will still be access to nearby residences and businesses.

The city is working with the Friendship Community Group, with funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, for an artist to design street murals. Artists Randi Stewart and Tim Englehardt will be lead volunteers in painting the streets.

“The Asphalt Art Initiative is a new program from Bloomberg Philanthropies created to help cities use art and design to improve street safety, revitalize public spaces and engage their communities,” the city said in a news release. “The program not only seeks to create vibrant public spaces but also looks to build city capacity for working with artists and community groups on projects involving transportation infrastructure.”

The Friendship Community Group is a nonprofit trying to “improve the quality of life in Friendship, our home.”
