A woman was injured Tuesday when she jumped from a burning home in Pittsburgh’s Elliott neighborhood, authorities said.

Neighbors reported the one-alarm fire around 11 a.m. at a home near Werder and Herrod streets.

A woman jumped from the roof of the two-story home, authorities said. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition to be treated for leg injuries.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said his grandson noticed the flames and called for help.

Speaking through his living room window, the neighbor said he and his grandson grabbed a metal ladder and tried to help the woman from the roof. He said she was wrapped in a blanket that caught fire, and she was screaming for help.

He said the ladder couldn’t reach high enough, and the woman jumped to the ground.

Two children who were in the home escaped before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
