Construction on a traffic calming project is slated to start next week in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood, according to city officials.
The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure will be installing speed humps on Seagirt Street between Tokay Street and Mooseheart Street beginning Wednesday. Construction work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. for two days, weather permitting, officials said.
Data collected last year indicated more than 70% of vehicles driving on Seagirt Street exceeded the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit, with most vehicles driving at about 36 miles per hour, city officials said in a statement. The speeding data and crash history in the area demonstrated the need for traffic calming interventions, officials said.
Drivers can expect intermittent closures of Seagirt Street as crews construct the speed humps. Officials urged drivers to use an alternate route, but said local residents will be allowed through the road.
Parking will be restricted during construction and temporary “no parking” signage will be posted throughout the area.
Officials said the project will cost about $31,800.
