In their first show in Pittsburgh since the 1990s, The Jesus Lizard showed few signs of slowing down Monday night at Stage AE.

The veteran rockers — don’t call them noise rock — are touring in support of “Rack,” their first new album since 1998.

Alongside songs from the new album, they played favorites like “Boilermaker,” “Then Comes Dudley” and “Mouth Breather,” as well as “Puss,” which came out in 1993 on a split single with Nirvana.

Frontman David Yow, at 64 years young, jumped from the stage onto the barrier, twice surfing and swimming on top of the crowd while singing.

Although Yow started in a sports coat, he also performed in an unbuttoned dress shirt as well as a Hawaiian shirt thrown from the crowd.

Bassist David Williams Sims and drummer Mac McNeilly, who was soaked by show’s end, laid down heavy, heavy grooves, while guitarist Duane Denison supplied a range of sounds, from punk to metal to arty.

Spotlights, with two of its three members (husband and wife Mario and Sarah Quintero) based out of Pittsburgh, opened the show with 45 minutes of atmospheric, distortion-laden metal.
