The first of Pitt basketball’s transfer portal additions became official Friday when coach Jeff Capel announced the signing of former Iowa State center Dishon Jackson.
Jackson (6-foot-11, 270 pounds) made a verbal commitment to the Panthers on April 4. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
“Dishon is an aggressive and physical post player who moves well and has a good feel for the game on both ends of the floor,” Capel said in a statement. “He is someone we targeted early in the transfer portal because he consistently plays with toughness, physicality and a competitive edge. He will be a strong veteran voice on the court and in the locker room.”
Jackson averaged 8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 18.7 minutes per game this season for Iowa State. He started 33 of 35 games.
Among his 15 double-figure scoring efforts, he recorded two double-doubles. He shot a career-best 58% (101 of 174) from the field and 72% (95 of 132) from the foul line. In the Big 12, he finished tied for 15th in offensive rebounds (2.0) and tied for 13th in blocks (37).
He scored 17 points against Kansas and had 10 points and 10 rebounds against Arizona. In the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals vs. Cincinnati, he had a season-best 15 rebounds and 10 points.
Pitt will be Jackson’s fourth school after playing at Washington State from 2020-22 and spending 2023-24 at Charlotte.
For his career, Jackson has recorded 960 points, 564 rebounds and 116 blocked shots, while shooting 54.3% (347 of 639) from the field and 69.5% (264 of 380) from the foul line.
