Mandatory minicamp for the Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up Thursday, but a few Steelers rookies stuck around the city to take in the sights and sounds of the U.S. Open on Friday afternoon.
Fourth-round selection Jack Sawyer (Ohio State), fifth-round pick Will Howard (Ohio State) and seventh-round draftee Carson Bruener (Washington) were in attendance among the throngs of fans in the gallery at Oakmont Country Club.
Sawyer, a linebacker, and Howard, a quarterback, were members of Ohio State’s national championship team that defeated Notre Dame, 34-23, in January.
Bruener, a linebacker, was a four-year starter at Washington who is now playing for the same team where his father, Mark, starred.
The U.S. Open has been a popular place for celebrity figures this week, including Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes and several teammates on Tuesday, actor Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin from “Happy Gilmore”) who was at Oakmont on Thursday, and Gov. Josh Shapiro, who also was in attendance Friday.
