A Pittsburgh native now holds the record for the most expensive work of American art ever sold.

Andy Warhol’s “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” which was painted in 1964, sold in just four minutes Monday at Christie’s for $195 million to become the most expensive 20th century artwork ever sold at public auction, AFP News Agency reported.

Prior to the sale, Christie’s had described the silkscreen as “one of the rarest and most transcendent images in existence.”

While slightly below the $200 million estimate, the price smashes the previous record set with Jean-Michael Basquiat’s skull painting, which was taken at $110.5 million in 2017.

Bloomberg News reported that dealer Larry Gagosian was the winning bidder for the Warhol work.
