The Lazy River at Sandcastle Waterpark took its time opening for a third consecutive season.
After a monthlong delay, the water attraction in West Homestead is scheduled to finally begin flowing at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Sweltering temperatures and sun will coincide with the opening.
Tyler Saxon, content manager for Sandcastle and Idlewild & SoakZone in Ligonier Township, said the delay was needed “to complete repairs from the off-season river flooding from the Monongahela River.”
This is the third year in a row for similar maintenance issues.
“Sandcastle is thrilled to open The Lazy River on June 29 for the season,” Saxon said. “The Lazy River has always been a fan favorite, and we are extremely excited for our guests to kick back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view all summer long.”

Sandcastle opened May 29 for the season.
The Lazy River is a quarter-mile long. On the park’s website it said riders, can stay in as long as they wish. They can swim, walk or lounge in single or double inner tubes.
Guests have been clamoring on social media for the river to open.
“Still waiting for the lazy river to open,” one person posted on Facebook.
The park has extended Friday hours until 6 p.m. in July and August and will stay open until 7 p.m. Friday through Monday for the Fourth of July holiday this weekend.
