As Bethel Park’s assistant recreation director, Lindsey Sibert spends quite a bit of time planning and organizing community activities.

Ties and Tiaras is among her favorites.

“It’s one of those events where everybody has a good time,” she said. “These little girls are just so excited to be here, and the dads get all dressed up, which I think is really nice and special for them.”

Coinciding with Valentine’s Day, this year’s soiree took place Feb. 15 in the multipurpose room at the Bethel Park Community Center, with girls and their fathers or father figures having the choice of attending in the afternoon or evening.

“This is the first year we’ve doubled the sessions,” Sibert said. “Normally we have one, and it’s kind of limited and hard to get people in here. So this year, we did two and pretty much sold out both sessions, which was awesome.”

For another Ties and Tiaras first, Only Mood party supply shop owner Melissa Wilkerson brought her “sparkle bar,” providing the girls with complimentary hair tinsel and face glitter.

And for Sibert, the day is an opportunity to see how the other half lives, so to speak.

“I have three boys,” she said, “so it’s really exciting to do all the pink and the glitter and all the fun things that go with this.”

The younger guests seemed to be having fun dancing, enjoying desserts and having their photos taken in their elegant attire.

“We’ve had dads in here with infants,” Sibert said. “We’ve had girls as old as sixth and seventh grade. As long as they’re still agreeable to come in with their dads, they’re more than welcome.”

Bethel Park Recreation activities continue with a “BP’s Got Talent” variety show on March 15 and the season’s final winter market at the community center on March 18. No-Cook Tuesdays, featuring weekly food trucks, start March 11.
