Allegheny County Police said they have charged a 47-year-old Bethel Park man for shooting his brother before trying to kill himself in January.
Despite being shot in the chest and face, Seth Michael Zimmerman’s brother was able to call 911 for help and say who had shot him, police said in a criminal complaint against Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was arraigned Tuesday on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records.
He was denied bail and placed in the Allegheny County Jail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 27 before District Judge Ronald A. Arnoni, according to court records.
Police responded to the shooting in the 500 block of Chessbriar Drive shortly after 1 p.m. Jan. 30. Zimmerman’s brother told 911 that he had been shot and that Zimmerman then tried to kill himself.
Zimmerman had a single gunshot wound to his head, the complaint states.
The brother told a Bethel Park police officer that while he and Zimmerman had not been arguing that day, he had previously told Zimmerman that he needed to get a job or move out, and that he believed Zimmerman was drinking, the complaint states.
The South Hills Council of Governments’ Critical Incident Response Team was called to assist. A drone was used to clear the house before police and paramedics entered, the complaint states.
Zimmerman and his brother were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, according to the complaint.
After getting a search warrant, police said they found a six-shot revolver with five spent casings and one round of ammunition next to Zimmerman’s body, the complaint says.
