A water main break shut down a portion of Butler Street in Pittsburgh on Thursday, authorities said.
The break happened near the 62nd Street Bridge on the border of Stanton Heights and Upper Lawrenceville, according to city and county officials.
Authorities closed Butler Street between 57th and 62nd streets and said it would likely remain closed “for a significant amount of time,” according to Pittsburgh police.

In a social media post, Allegheny County officials noted that the “roadway is compromised.”
The break happened around 2:30 p.m. The break is near Pittsburgh Collision and just a few blocks from the Pittsburgh zoo.
Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported large amounts of water gushing form the buckled street and running down a nearby hillside.

Tree Pittsburgh, located just below the 62nd Street Bridge, said in a tweet that the nonprofit’s offices and Heritage Nursery, where young trees are located, were safe.
