Thirty-three students attended Divine Mercy Academy’s fourth annual Saber Summer Cheer Camp in June, with the theme of “Neon Lights and Saber Nights.”

The Monroeville parochial school’s cheer camp was available to all area children entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall. Campers did not have to be Divine Mercy students to participate.

Camp leaders teach participants basic cheerleading techniques while building school spirit and encouraging teamwork. For Divine Mercy students, it’s also a precursor for cheer season, which starts in the fall and coincides with basketball and flag football.

To wrap up the week, the cheerleaders showcased their new skills for friends and family during a presentation on June 26.

Last year, Divine Mercy parent Billie Roseberry volunteered at cheer camp. This year, she took on the role of assistant cheer coach. Her 6-year-old daughter Blake also attended camp.

“It’s been great working with the kids and so fun watching them learn new skills,” Roseberry said. “It’s also a good start for the upcoming cheer season.”

Divine Mercy Academy is located at 245 Azalea Drive. For more information on the school, call 412-372-7255 or visit https://dmapgh.org/.
