A 48-year-old North Versailles woman accused of spending more than $12,000 of federal school lunch subsidies on personal expenses between 2014 and 2016 turned herself in to authorities Thursday, according to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office.
Rebecca L. Moore was food service director for St. Benedict the Moor School in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood.
The state Inspector General’s office initially found the suspected misuse of federal school lunch funds and referred the case to the U.S. Department of Agriculture because the amount in question was too low.
Moore is accused of diverting at least $12,841 from the school’s food service account into another account and using the money for personal expenses, according to a criminal complaint.
Moore is facing charges of receiving stolen property, misuse of funds and theft.
Officials at the school deferred to the Diocese of Pittsburgh and a diocesan spokeswoman didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
An attorney for Moore wasn’t listed in online court records.
