Pittsburgh police are investigating reports of a armed robbery attempt at Wendy’s on Baum Boulevard.

Officer responded to the restaurant, which borders the Shadyside and Friendship neighborhoods, around 2:45 a.m. Friday for reports of a robbery in progress.

An employee told police he was taking out the trash when he saw two men emerge from some bushes. The employee ran to an entrance to get back inside, but it was locked, police said. He banged on a window for another employee to let him in.

The suspects tried to find an unlocked entrance to the building, but could not get in. The employee told police one of the men was carrying an AR-15 type gun.

Responding officers did not find any suspects. The matter remains under investigation.
