With 100% of precincts reporting, Democrat incumbent Brandon Markosek will retain his seat in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives.
Markosek, with just under 60% of the vote, beat Republican challenger John Ritter with 40% of the vote in the 25th District.
More than 34,000 votes were cast in the race. Markosek came away with 20,576 of them, according to unofficial results from Allegheny County.
Markosek, 31, became a state representative in 2018 and was reelected in 2020 after defeating Ritter with more than 58% of the vote. He was reelected in 2022, defeating challenger Steve Schlauch with more than 60% of the vote.
Markosek said his top priorities are economic development, infrastructure and transportation improvements and providing Pennsylvania students with a quality education.
“Western Pennsylvania has an aging infrastructure, so I’ve made it a point to prioritize grant funding for roads, bridges, sewers — we’ve put a real emphasis on making sure the east suburbs have funding available, whether it’s for paving or a new sewage project,” Markosek said.
Ritter, 69, made multiple unsuccessful runs against former state Rep. Joseph Markosek and his son. Ritter ran unsuccessfully for Monroeville mayor in 2013, and was elected to the Gateway School Board in 2015.
The 25th District ranges from North Versailles, Wilmerding and White Oak in the south to Monroeville, Pitcairn and parts of Plum in the north.
