Two separate power outages affected schools and residents in Plum on Thursday morning.

A “wind-related” outage caused equipment issues that impacted Plum Middle and Holiday Park Intermediate schools, Duquesne Light spokesperson Alyssa Battaglia said. The schools share a campus off Presque Isle Drive in the borough’s Holiday Park neighborhood.

The district had the schools operate on a flexible instructional day, following a two-hour delay, according to an announcement from the district. The district’s high school and O’Block and Pivik elementary schools were not affected.

Power to the schools was restored around 9 a.m., Battaglia said.

The other outage, at one point in the morning affecting about 1,700 customers, was caused by an overnight single-vehicle crash.

A vehicle hit a utility pole at Renton and Clements roads, Plum police spokesman Det. Joe Little said. No injuries were reported.

The crash broke the pole and brought down wires, Battaglia said.
