A Pittsburgh man is charged with burglary and assault after he broke into a Bloomfield woman’s home and tried to sexually assault her as she slept, according to police.

The incident happened in mid-May, according to the criminal complaint against Patrick Yungwirth. He was initially charged with burglary, simple assault and strangulation. Those charges were withdrawn Thursday and new charges of simple assault, burglary and indecent assault were filed.

The complaint said the woman was asleep in her bed when Yungwirth, 63, came into her bedroom and jumped on her, saying, “Don’t worry, I’m a friend.”

The woman told police that Yungwirth tried to muffle her screams as she fought against him and attempted to call 911. Police note in the complaint that the woman had never met Yungwirth.

The woman suffered scratches and bruises, according to the complaint. She said Yungwirth grabbed her by the neck during the struggle.

Yungwirth was released on nonmonetary bond the same day as the incident. A new warrant was issued Thursday after the initial charges were withdrawn and new charges were filed.
