Around 300 homes in Pittsburgh’s Stanton Heights and Garfield neighborhoods are under a flush and boil water advisory Saturday.
A tank near Garfield experienced a pump failure while T-Mobile was completing utility work around 11 a.m., according to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. The result was low or no water pressure for some residents in the higher elevation areas of Stanton Heights and Garfield.
Water pressure loss means contaminants can end up in the water, and PWSA issued the precautionary advisory for the area around Cornwall and Columbo streets in Garfield and the area of McCabe, Brintell and Somerville streets and Stanton Terrace in Stanton Heights.
The advisory was still in effect at 6 p.m.
Those affected received robocalls from PWSA, and a map on the utility’s website shows the full areas affected.
Water buffaloes are set up at the Engine 7 station, at the intersection of Stanton Avenue and Hawthorne Street, and near the intersection of North Aiken Avenue and Mossfield Street.
Residents should boil and cool any water they use for drinking, cooking, washing dishes and brushing their teeth.
