More than 20 streets in Lower Burrell are on tap to be paved this year.

City Council on Monday approved a contract of close to $235,000 with Russell Standard to chip-seal 19 streets — the majority of which are in Kinloch — this summer.

The full list of roads, according to City Manager Greg Primm, includes Chicago, Zane, New York, Broadway, Wells, Wills, Atlantic and Pacific avenues; Pittsburgh, Pike, Fayette and Pacmil streets; Silvermoon, Fairview and Lori drives; Millers Lane; Dugan Way; Trailer Boulevard; and the unpaved portion of Hill Street.

Primm said those roads were selected by city officials because of their condition and how long it has been since they were last fixed.

“It was their turn, and there was need to give them some attention to ensure longevity of the road integrity,” Primm said.

Primm anticipates the work to begin in mid-August.

Lower Burrell had budgeted $290,000 for paving in this year’s budget.

City Engineer Matt Pitsch told council that, because the city came in under budget, he plans to seek contract bids for portions of Clarendon Avenue, Tioga Street and Prospect Circle for paving.

“Because the gas company has recently finished up projects on them replacing lines, and have paved portions where they repaired, we felt it would be beneficial to finish it out to give those roads greater longevity and stability,” Primm said.
