Plum’s three-day seasonal celebration at Larry Mills Park has begun.

SummerFest kicked off Thursday evening with a mix of carnival rides and games across from nonprofit and community group booths and food trucks.

It is the same layout as last year with C&L Shows providing all the bells and whistles, sights and sounds of a traveling amusement park.

Some of the popular rides included the 70-foot Ferris wheel, a giant slide and a carousel of children-sized cars complete with working horns.

Hundreds of people braved the heat for opening day including borough resident Abby Prokopik and her 1-1/2 year old son, Leo.

“It’s a fun summer family event for all ages; good food and really fun games,” Propkopik said.

Groups such as Plum Area Soccer Club were selling drinks and snacks to raise funds for their respective programs.

Plum police mingled with the crowd.

Festivities continue 5-10 p.m. Friday and 4-10 p.m. Saturday with a fireworks display as the festival’s finale.
