Allegheny Township residents soon won’t have to drive far for emergency medical care.
Township supervisors Chairman Jamie Morabito said a walk-in, urgent care facility is in the works for 48 Towne Center Drive, near the magistrate’s office.
“I’m real excited about it,” said Supervisor Mike Korns. “It’s in a good location in our Towne Center, right near Giant Eagle. Frankly, we don’t have any facilities like this in the township.”
Morabito anticipates final township and county approval for Rural Urgent Care, LLC within the upcoming months, and a potential groundbreaking for the 2,700-square-foot facility in the fall.
Morabito said “there’s a huge need” for such medical services in Allegheny Township.
“This has been on my radar since day one, since I got elected,” Morabito said. “At that point, we were going to Allegheny Valley Hospital. This has been a huge, huge improvement and addition to Allegheny Township.”
Morabito said his understanding is that the facility would have one doctor and two or three physician assistants. The facility would not be open 24/7. Rural Urgent Care operates facilities in the southeast. They did not return TribLive requests for comment.
“It’s another huge asset to Allegheny Township that the residents have that opportunity now if something happens, or if they need to see the doctor they can do that within a few miles of their house,” Morabito said.
Supervisor Jeff Pollick said the urgent care will be a “great asset in the community.”
“It’s exciting to see Allegheny Township grow and support its residents so they don’t have to travel far from the community,” he said.
