Woodland Hills School District Board of Directors voted Tuesday to approve the censure of board member Darnika Reed during a special meeting.
The vote was 5-4.
The school district in a statement said that Reed had “made a series of social media posts in which she shared internal district email correspondence from various members of the district staff and other board members without prior consent,” using her district-provided email to access and share information.
The board said in the statement Reed’s actions violated policy on guidelines for acceptable use of the district’s networks and technology.
Reed, in a Facebook post, said, “this action comes after I posted an email thread where board members voted to approve over $3 million in contracts via email. The names of the companies involved were not disclosed at the time of the vote, the request was approved by members without knowing the names of the companies they agreed to pay.”
With Tuesday’s vote, Reed will no longer have access to the district’s network or technology, including email. She will, according to the statement, still have access to “PowerSchool and District robocalls.”
The censure also states Reed will be removed from all board committees and requests her resignation from the board.
“The board made a statement tonight that they will not condone any breach of confidential information by any sole board member,” Superintendent Dr. Daniel Castagna said in the statement.
Castagna is leaving Woodland Hills to take a job as superintendent of Chartiers Valley School District.
