Letter to the editor: Reschenthaler not representing

It’s best for me to think of Rep. Guy Reschenthaler’s weekend newsletters as attempts at humor. Witness his June 9 email.

I want him to take me to the Westmoreland County grocery store where eggs are $2.52 so I can purchase there. He claims to be a great supporter of small businesses. We could visit the local business owner who said, nearly in tears, that 145% tariffs on Chinese goods made her wonder if she should close her business, except who would buy it? Many of her key items come from China.

Reschenthaler’s jolly newsletter, no doubt, is intended to divert attention from the big, ugly bill he supported. What would be the effects of cuts to Medicaid on the Independence Health System? Maybe it doesn’t matter to him that local hospitals could close.

I treat myself to the humor of the imaginary eggs and to his so-called support of small businesses amidst the absurdity of cuts to Medicaid while the White House spends $135 million on unneeded troops in Los Angeles and another $45 million on a vanity birthday parade.

Reschenthaler must be laughing all the time at the voters who thought he would represent them.
