The Quebec Capitales scored seven runs in the second inning and rolled to an 11-6 victory over the Washington Wild Things in Game 2 of the Frontier League Championship Series on Wednesday night.
The best-of-five series is tied 1-1. Game 3 is set for Friday night in Quebec.
When Quebec took a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by David Glaude in the first inning, the Wild Things had an answer. Tommy Caufield homered and Andrew Czech delivered an RBI single to make it 2-2.
But the Capitales racked up seven hits, including four doubles and a home run by Anthony Quirion, to take a 9-2 lead after two innings.
Washington starter Dariel Fregio recorded four outs and gave up six runs on five hits and two walks. Malik Barrington came on and was touched up for five runs on five hits and two walks in 1⅔ innings.
The Wild Things bullpen closed the game out strong. Ryan Munoz threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and Zach Kirby, Brendan Nail and Nick McDonald each worked a scoreless frame.
Brandon McIlwain went 1 for 4 with a triple and an RBI and Tyreque Reed went 1 for 5, doubled and drove in a run for Washington.
