The Pittsburgh Riverhounds saw a seven-game unbeaten streak in USL Championship play come to an end with a 2-0 loss at Memphis 901 FC on Saturday night.
The Riverhounds (3-4-4), who trailed most of the match after falling behind in the seventh minute, were 3-0-4 in their previous seven games in league play.
Marlon scored the opening goal for Memphis (5-5-1). Riverhounds defender Junior Etou headed down a long pass into the penalty area, but Marlon collected it and scored from 20 yards out.
The Riverhounds very nearly tied the score about five minutes later when Pat Hogan got his head on a Bradley Sample corner kic, but Memphis forward Dylan Borczak made a non-keeper save on the goal line.
Memphis added an insurance goal in opening minutes of the second half. Luiz Fernando play a ball to Oscar Jimenez on the right side of the side and he scored on a bad-angle shot to make it 2-0.
Shots were even at 11-11 in the game, but only three of the Riverhounds’ attempts were on frame.
Up next for the Riverhounds is a home game with Indy Eleven next Saturday, June 1, at Highmark Stadium.
