Chabi Barre spent the past three seasons patrolling the paint and protecting the rim for the Duquesne men’s basketball team, but he will continue those pursuits elsewhere next season.

Barre, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, entered the transfer portal Tuesday night, according to SBE Global consulting agency.

The native of Natitingou, Benin, whose full name is Abdou Halil “Chabi” Barre, averaged 4.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game this past season. He started 11 games and shot 73% from the field.

Barre has two years of eligibility remaining.

Barre recovered after a scary incident during a practice Jan. 30, 2023, when he collapsed and was treated with an AED (automated external defibrillator). With a heart monitor implanted into his chest, he was back on the court for the 2023-24 season.

He was the top receiver prospect in Massachusetts coming out of high school, according to 247Sports.

• Offensive lineman Moritz Schmoranzer (6-4, 300) did not play in any games last season and redshirted. He came from North Cross High School in Virginia where he was all-state on offense and defense.

He has three years of eligibility remaining. The four-star prospect missed his senior season at Brashear in 2022 with an injury.

• Jon Mitchell (6-0, 185), a redshirt freshman cornerback who played in six games last fall, had five tackles and played on special teams. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

Penn State offensive lineman JB Nelson (Mt. Lebanon) previously entered the transfer portal.
