U mad, bro?: Steelers already defensive about Aaron Rodgers, still defensive about Justin Fields

It appears that Aaron Rodgers already has his sycophants within Steelers Nation. Some Steelers fans think I was too hard on Justin Fields this week. Others feel I’m too hard on the team in general.

It appears that Aaron Rodgers already has his sycophants within Steelers Nation. Some Steelers fans think I was too hard on Justin Fields this week. Others feel I’m too hard on the team in general.

And then there are folks who are just waiting for the other shoe to drop in Cleveland.

Or maybe it’s a glove. One tiny, tiny little glove.

All that to come in this week’s “U mad, bro?”

On Wednesday, I wrote a column that highlighted the potential pitfalls of the Pittsburgh Steelers signing Aaron Rodgers. It seems that some Steelers loyalists are defensive of him and he hasn’t even signed a contract yet.

In that column, I said Rodgers is “an aging, declining, narcissistic distraction of a quarterback who is asking for too much money.”

C’mon, now! That is inaccurate and completely unfair. Unlike Aaron Rodgers, I am not agi… um…

I am not narc… um

I am not asking for $90 million!

Wayne also apparently took offense to that column.

Well, I’ve been right about them failing to win a playoff game for most of the last eight years. How about you?

And in terms of my “little man’s complex,” it shouldn’t worry you. What should worry you — if Rodgers ends up in New York or Minnesota — is 17 more games of your 5-foot-10 quarterback trying to see over the line of scrimmage.

That didn’t work out too well the last month or so of last season.

Is that too combative?

Someone calling themselves @burghadurg23011 thinks I “hate” the Steelers. Here’s a cleaned-up version of what he posted.

I got 2 Superbowls in my lifetime, never seen us (stink), I’m not expecting more than what I should. You blame the coaching staff and front office when the players aren’t that good Plus, we had a hall of fame qb for 2 decades and still haven’t fell off.”

So, “you” got two Super Bowls? Are you a player? A coach? An equipment manager?

“Never seen us (stink)?” Hmm. I guess you didn’t watch the last five games.

They “haven’t fell off?” Dude, they haven’t won a playoff game in eight years. It’s a record-long streak since 1972. That’s the actual definition of “falling off.”

Also, I don’t hate the Steelers. I hate that they haven’t won a playoff game since 2016.

I think “Allegheny Andy actually agrees with my criticism of Rodgers but disagrees with my premise that if this potential signing fails, there will finally be some repercussions.

“Nicely put. Unfortunately, what you predict, already happened this year. And the Steelers didn’t do 1 (darned) thing about it.

I’m sure Kenneth Gainwell would feel offended by that comment.

Clint has thoughts on the Steelers’ quarterback situation.

Then we need to ask a different question.

This reader didn’t like my column about Justin Fields deciding to depart the Steelers for New York, in part because (reportedly) he wasn’t given a guarantee about being the starter here.

What? That’s one heck of a presumptive leap. “Accuse him” of “having a sneaky agenda?” How did I do that? I commented on the report that he wanted a guarantee the Steelers really couldn’t (and shouldn’t) give.

Stop using social media as a way to preen and constantly be offended on behalf of others.

Brendan commented on the news that Russell Wilson could wind up in Cleveland — just days after Kenny Pickett was traded there.

Probably. I assume they have blocking sleds in Cleveland.

Finally, @SteelersCap also comments on the prospect of Wilson potentially jumping in front of Pickett on someone else’s depth chart yet again.

Sir, all I can say to this response is …
