Two pitchers from district universities were drafted Tuesday on the third day of the MLB Draft.

Seton Hill right-handed pitcher Aidan Layton, a graduate of Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, was chosen by the Oakland Athletics at No. 496 overall, the first pick in the 17th round. At 6-2, 295 pounds, he was 7-2, with a 3.15 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 15 starts. In 88 2/3 innings, he struck out 90 batters, walked 20 and allowed a .216 batting average.

West Virginia right-handed pitcher Tyler Switalski went to the San Francisco Giants in the 16th round (No. 478). He made 14 starts among his 18 appearances for the Mountaineers this spring, compiling a 5-3 record, 5.10 ERA and 1.52 WHIP.

Switalski (6-foot-4, 235 pounds) struck out 58 batters and walked 35 in 67 innings, allowing a .260 batting average and surrendering six home runs.
